Transferring songs from old computer to new laptop?

I just got a new laptop for college. I just downloaded tunes and everything so that my songs from my old computer can be transferred on to my laptop. My question is, when I transfer the songs (via flash drive) will my laptop get any viruses that are attached to the songs? I downloaded the songs off of Ares, and I can't have my laptop working slower or getting messed up my viruses. My old computer is pretty slow, and the only thing i can think that made it slow would be the songs I downloaded. Any advice would be really helpful, I'm not too tech- savvy.
