What excactly is the prosperity gospel?

What exactly is the prosperity gospel? Is it a good or bad thing? Who preaches this kind of gospel and who preaches this? I have my own view of what this may be but I thought I would ask on line as their are a lot of good people on this site that may be able to ist me in this question.
