Which would you say is better Doberman or German Shepherd?

I am asking because I am ready for another pet, after losing my Kerry Blue Terrier two years ago. Which of the above two dogs would make the best pet and which would you say has the calm temperament, out of the two. I like both but I can't make up my mind. Much appreciated if you own any of the two and could tell me what they are like.
